It's Daniel Laskarin! He's having a show at Deluge! Stick and Stones!

It's Daniel Laskarin! It's Daniel Laskarin!

I am especially excited because Daniel was one of my professors. It's been awhile since I've seen any of his work and I am expecially eager to because his teachings are still very fresh in my brain. Will he "fail, fail better," as Daniel would say? I don't think so. Hopefuly when I see him opening night I won't feel pressure to explain how I've been a good student all these years. He doesn't grade me anymore!
Opening: Friday, September 4, 7pm
Show runs: September 4 to October 3, 2009
Deluge Contemporary Art
636 Yates Street
Victoria, BC

Update!

Daniel will be having another show? At the same time?!

Holy cow, talk about a busy bee. If you happen to be in Vancouver check out Access Artist Run Centre to see more of Daniel's work. He will be participating in a show with Jen Hutton called "[]". Yeah, "[]". Go figure. Opening night is September 11th. Visit the Access website for more information.

"Stick" collage by Mel Paget at The Fifty Fifty Arts Collective

Mel Paget is a local artist, studying Visual Arts at Emily Carr University. While previously studying graphic design became interested in creating paper collages and manipulating images. This series is a collection of noise-inspired environments. This work reflects the hunter gathering process of imaging, popularized by the internet. Stick will be opening August 7th at eight o' clock, this is the same night as the Woodpile Collective at Boucherat Gallery. Make it a two show night!

Eidola at Open Space

Open Space is getting ready for their next show!

"Open Space presents Eidola from artists William Brent and Ellen Moffat. Eidola is a sound-based installation that confronts disciplinary biases that linger in the discursive history of the gallery. Invoking interdisciplinary approaches to sound composition and visual installation, Eidola brings together distinct disciplinary practitioners – one, William Brent, a musician who makes objects, and the other, Ellen Moffat, a visual artist who makes sound; between the two, a cross-pollination occurs as sounds emerge through object presences."

Neato huh? Last Friday of the month, I'm excited. I hope to see Open Space barfing huge speakers and cassette tapes.
